Dom Packaging Dom Brial, Cotes du Roussillon Rousssillon wine region is the most southern French around the town of Perpignan next to the Spanish border. The main red grapes are Carignan, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre with the main one being white Grenache Blanc and Macabeo. The region is also famous for Rivesaltes, a dessert wine very purpose. I recently visited an excellent producer in Roussillon, Dom Brial, which manages to combine the traditions of the region with modern winemaking techniques and marketing. The result is a superb range of wines in a modern packaging has made the traditional grapes of the region. The field is in the city Baixas and vineyards are located in the surrounding hills overlooking the Pyranees. They practice a minimum intervention in the vineyards and the restoration of the mosaic of dry stone walls in the vineyards. The area is full of grass and wildflowers and is a pleasure to walk in the hills. In recent years, the vineyard planting over bin Syrah to add finesse to the more robust varieties. Range of AOC Ca´tes du Roussillon offer outstanding value at £ 6.49. The winning white (Grenache Blanc, Malvosie, Macabeo) is fresh and aromatic, with a real depth of flavor. The Rose (Syrah, Grenache,) is a fleshy fruity style with aromas of raspberry, more akin to a red light. Red (Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) is a robust full-bodied wine packed with fleshy fruit and spices. The star of the range is the old oak barrel oak. Twelve months aging in oak, then aged in bottle until ready for release, it is a complex wine with aromas of cassis and savory oak. At £ 8.99 it compares very favorably to a Bordeaux at the same price. The magnums at £ 19.99 are even more special. You can learn more about these wines and other treasures to Talking Wines .
