MarketplaceHome Staging Virginia Why are some historic houses have two distinct steps when there are only two bedrooms? I recently visited two historic homes in Virginia (early 1800) with only two rooms. There are separate stairways for each room. The first owners of this house could have built this way for convenience. If it was closer than the other, they would not walk as much. I am just doubting that seems very unusual for such a small house. I have some old houses in my neighborhood and I can not understand why they have doors on the outside of their homes taking a fall of five feet on the ground. Posted on August 20, 2010.
