I had my house on sale now for over 1.5 years (since the fall of this economy stupid house). It seems that it is very unlikely that it will sell quickly. My husband and I have another place we are heading that is our own (bought and paid for). We are in a situation now where we need to leave the house because we are a family member ill and needed money.

So the question is, the house we're currently in, should we continue to keep for sale or just rent it? I'm a little afraid of rent because I'm afraid it will certainly be damaged especially with a pool, but we still need to get out from under the support services, etc. (to maintain two homes).

There are a number of different things you could do. If you decide to rent, you can use a property management agency to help ensure that the house rent. I use a property manager and they charge me 10% of all rental income received. If the house does not rent, they receive no money. They have a strong incentive to ensure the property stays rented. My property manager is also a solid background checks on all prospective tenants.
If you want to sell the house you might consider putting two houses for sale and who live in the house that does not sell.
I recommend you try to rent the house to others. It's a buyer's market right now to sell the house now may not be as profitable as it could be a few years.
