MarketplaceMls Listings Nova Scotia Sales of homes in Nova Scotia 13% increase in February Nova Scotia Homes sales up 13% in February An article in the Halifax Chronicle Herald this morning (March 26, 2009) reported that sales of existing homes in Nova Scotia rose 13% in February compared to January. It is based on the Multiple Listing Service numbers that have just been published by our Association (Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS ® una) As mentioned in the Post yesterday Dave we have not seen the sharp decline in sales and house prices they have seen in other parts of the country. These statistics are seasonally adjusted to take into account the number of days in a month and the slow winter sales. Without these adjustments increased sales would have been one month MLS huge 48% during the month (January was slow this year compared to other years)! NSAR said it would have been the strongest pace for that period of ten years. It seems that buyers out of nowhere to buy. Whether because of incentives such as tax credit new home owner or the low interest rates that are the driving factors. One thing is sure. Our brokerage is getting busier and busier every day. The phone is ringing, people start to want to look at houses and more bids are ongoing. Some other statistics in the article have been this year over year sales in February fell 23%. That's less than a year over the year to January, which was negative 32%. Nationwide home sales fell 31% in February. The biggest difference between Nova Scotia and the rest of Canada has been the change in the average selling price. The average MLS sale price in Nova Scotia in February was almost the same as last year. Not so with the rest of the country ..... Nationally, the average sales price fell 9%! The Halifax housing market had the largest positive change in Nova Scotia with the average selling price increased 2.7% over the year. To summarize this post, sales have slowed this year compared t Posted on August 10, 2010.
