I need information on the use of recycled shipping containers to build a house.? I want to build a house around 3000-5000 square feet. To save space I want to build vertically, on three floors.
Can be stacked steel containers? Should I build each floor?
You get the idea of Bob Vila use containers to housing for the poor in Tampa.
I like the idea of recycling and the cost would be less than the construction with the block or wood. I'll live in a rainforest and I want to preserve as much as I can.
Any building or engineering information will be appreciated.
Depending on what your local / national building code requires, and local regulations should be more likely to find an architect or a contractor building engineer / design the house for you.
The short answer is that it is possible to build a house outside of these containers. Personally, I do not want a house built entirely of steel, but it's just me.
In addition, another major concern of the use of steel containers for a house, especially in a tropical forest, is the resistance to corrosion. You must ensure that the steel is well protected, or you may have rusted a house in a few years.
