Redesign House

I would get my little old house remodel and rebuild. Where do I start? Should I go to an architect, engineer or builder?

All three will I think, because they usually work hand in hand. I am a contractor in the United States, Florida. If you hire me I have a designer / architect drew the plans, the Engineer stamps and approves the plans and the contractor that builds. If the design is very important to start with the architect, structural engineer, so, if the start price with the contractor, because it can generally keep things within reasonable cost, as the contractor is the most knowledgeable about what some crazy (not all architects) or engineer Overkill. Basically, you can start with one or the other on that basis. Here in Florida must have the 3 involved in the process to get approved for a license. Hope that made sense.

Architects / designers have a tendency to make things fabulous and contempt or ignorance about what it will cost.

Overkill Engineer trend which must be done structurally to cover their butts.

Contractor can usually find a good balance between the two and you get good design and the structure, without exaggeration and within reasonable limits.

Note: I have forgotten that. Whatever you start you have the most control over the entire process. Example: If you begin with the architect and it gives you a great purpose, and then you get 3 bids from contractors and it is more than your budget. You may have to pay him to make revisions or additive and even drawings or plans even with the engineer. Get all the information. advance if you are not blinded by the extra cost.
