You isolate one variable - x or y Then you replace in. So this answer:

(10 - 2a) + 2y = 10. Then, to solve, and to substitute in the original equation and solve for X

Solve for x, then substitute for y = 2x

You should ask * how * to problems not only asking people to do.

Simply make an equation for the two stores or clubs or whatever (rate generally, eg. $ 10 per minute, so it'd be 10x as x minutes, then add the fixed cost of starting, so in this example, if the cost of departure was 100 itd be 10X P = 100) and the two equations equal to eachother then solve for X. This will be your answer.

The latter would be .80 X =. 1 75X 2. Solve for X and is the number of minutes when both the same cost.
