Texas Rental Contract

Our flat has new owners. They claim that we must sign a contract on page 32, but refused to fax me a copy of the first examination. I can see it in their offices during the time of signing .....

Is it illegal? Why do they refuse my ability to review with a lawyer in advance?
How can they force us to re-sign any lease for a simple change of dates of rental payment?

Is there an agency for tenants in the state of Texas that I can contact about this? I also believe that some subliminal discrimination against the disabled can also be a part of their agenda, since apartment communities in North Texas seems focused on appearances, and wheelchairs, are not considered "upward mobile or fashion.

PS - they argue that even if we renewed our lease in October for the rental period from February 2008 to January 2009, that due to changes in the cost of time due to the first 3/4th, it is necessary to repeat a lease together. The original lease was not 32 pages, whatever.

Sounds like they are hiding something. You have the right to examine any document before signing. There are offices of owner / tenant in almost every city. Or contact your local legal aid office for advice. They charge on a sliding scale.

Are they changing the due date as a favor to you? Or are they themselves?

If it is a favor to you, tell them "Never mind, we'll just stay with the old lease and the due date."

If it's their idea, tell them they can change the due date if they want but you still get in by 1st of each month, and will not be signing a new lease since you already have one until 2009.

You already have a lease. They can not force you to sign a new one. If you dispute this, please contact a lawyer. Many requests for lawyers representing a man in a wheelchair against a building manager discriminatory ....
